Lip Tattoo Client Information
GENERAL PREPARATION
- Avoid consuming alcohol and/or caffeine within 24 hours prior to treatment.
- Some medications may cause adverse effects. Please get in touch for further advice regarding any medication you are taking. Doctor approval may be required in some medical circumstances.
- If you take supplements known to thin the blood, such as fish oil or aspirin, cease taking 1 week prior to treatment.
- If the area you would like treated has existing cosmetic tattoos, please get in touch or send pics prior to booking an appointment.
FOR 2 WEEKS POST-TREATMENT
- EXERCISE: Avoid cardio workouts and excessive sweating until the healing area starts to scab up (2-5 days). Once scabbing starts, you may resume normal exercising, however, be cautious of exposing the area to sweat.
- Do not touch the healing area with fingers.
- Do not expose or submerge the area in chlorinated pools or salt water.
- Avoid saturating the area in water.
- Avoid hot, steamy showers, steam rooms and saunas until healed.
- Avoid spray tanning the area until healed.
- Avoid consuming alcohol for 48 hours post-treatment.
- Protect the area from sun exposure and ensure your skin is in good health for 2-weeks prior to treatment.
- Do not pick the flaking skin or scabs.
- Ensure your touch up is booked for 4-8 weeks post treatment.
- Certain chemicals in cleansers and moisturisers will accelerate fading and may discolour the tattoo. Avoid applying these products to any tattooed areas unless directed to do so.
- Expected healing time is 5-9 days.
1 WEEK AFTER TREATMENT
Where did the color go?
During the healing process, the tattooed area will become intensely dark and minor scabbing will develop as new collagen-rich skin forms underneath. This new skin temporarily makes the pigment appear faded and dull. Protect and nourish this new skin and the color will return within a few weeks.
LIP TATTOO
Preparation
- If you have a history of cold sores, it is essential to see a physician at least 4-days prior to treatment, and request preventative intervention.
- Ensure the lip area is not sunburnt, damaged, chapped or too dry.
- Gently exfoliate 1-week prior to treatment and sleep with a hydrating product (I recommend Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask) on the lip area.
- Repeat the above step every second night until the day of treatment.
- Avoid Laser within 2-weeks of your appointment.
- You’ll need to avoid laser on or near the lip area post-tattooing. I recommend ensuring any laser treatment courses are completed prior to having Lip Tattoo done.
Aftercare
- Swelling may be expected after treatment. This normally subsides throughout the day, however, may last 3-5 days.
- Apply a cold compress or ice to the area immediately after treatment, for just a few minutes, and repeat every few hours that day.
- Avoid applying ice directly to exposed skin, a clean tissue may be used as a barrier.
- Avoid consuming hot drinks or alcohol for the first few days post-treatment.
- Using a clean cotton tip, apply a very thin layer of recommended Aftercare product to the area, regularly, throughout the day.
- Do not apply makeup to the area or touch with fingers until healed (1 week).
- Dryness, flaking, and peeling may be expected within the first few days and is normally completed within a week.
- The color normally disappears at first, due to the changes in new skin. Color will return at around 7-weeks.
- If you experience symptoms of cold sores, inflammation, or tenderness at the treated area, notify your Artist and consult a physician immediately.
- Return for a touch up at 8-weeks.
